What is your 2023 sporting highlight?
Internationally this year Kiwis have once again been performing and hosting on the world stage, with World Cups in Women’s FIFA and Netball along with the Men’s Rugby and Cricket as well as the Athletics Championship and Virtus Global games just to name a few. This left ‘Sports Year in Review’ panel, hosted by Meredith Connell, hard pressed to choose their favourite 2023 sporting moment.
Jeff Wilson, Sky Sport Presenter; Rebecca Rolls, Integrity Transition Director and Nick Patterson, CEO for Drug Free Sport all agreed that there was a plethora of moments they all had to choose from for their favourite sporting moment. If they thought this question was difficult, our moderators for the evening Adine Wilson and Beth Smith, former New Zealand athletes and Associates in the Sports Law team at Meredith Connell, kept the panel on their toes with challenging questions covering topics from technology’s growing influence in sport, the influence whanau can have on athletes’ decision making, through to what place Te Reo Māori and Tikanga have in New Zealand sport.
ALN were grateful for the opportunity to attend the event and for the new relationship with the Sports Law team at Meredith Connell.
